I usually threaten to spank them.
It works 95% of the time. If that doesn't work, I spank them, then put them in their room. They throw a tempter tantrum for about 5 mins. Then they are usually good after that.
Did I say "they"? I meant "him". Just threatening my daughter works every time. Hasn't failed me yet lol ....... yet...
That always worked for me as a kid!
Whatever works fro you and your home. I'm not a spanker though. I think it has a lot to do with how we were raised..
I think most kids act up because they just don't get it. If they understand why their behavior is bad, they will adjust. Perhaps I'm still naive but I can't imagine that my kid's going to act like a jerk on purpose.
If they're having a particular bad tantrum, I will get down to his level and explain why he's in trouble. He calms down and I offer him a hug, 50% of the time he takes it. I want to cry when he doesn't.

Finally got a job. Jack in the Box. Not much, but it's something. I'm divorced but in a new, better relationship and he's my new son's father. I'm very happy to have him in my life (my ex is a free loader, currently living out of his car).
