Organization Tips for a Busy Mom- APPS!
Are there moms who AREN'T busy? The tips that follow I think can help busy people period, not just moms.
Organization and outsourcing go great together. I don't mean you need to go dole out the cash for a maid and a cook and a Gardner and , of course, a personal assistant. Maybe a nanny too. YOU still have to cover all these tasks. But, you can luckily outsource some of the worry and memory space to some free apps.
Forget storing everything in your mind and waiting to forget or until last minute or just using your motivation and energy trying to keep up with everything. I know that used to wear me down.
Then I started using a paper GTD (Getting Things Done) system which I highly suggest reading the book of the same title... The book is a real snoozer, but the benefits are life changing.
THEN I got a smart phone, so I thought I'd share some apps I use to keep everything running smoothly and no task left behind.
I have a droid so these apps definitely work on Droid phones and Kindles but I don't know which have iOS counterparts.
The top two INDISPENSABLE ones are!
Evernote - save, tag, remember, organize EVERYTHING. Srsly. I use it about 77 times a day. Or more.
Regularly- forget inputting stuff you do at least once every year or two on to do lists. Let regularly do it. I have daily, weekly, every few monthly, and yearly tasks setup. Add your oil change, your bill dates, your period, work tasks, trash day, clean the gutters.. EVERYTHING you have to do more than once. It tells you how many days you have left and automatically rearranges your lists and color codes for urgency. You can add tags too so you can look at your home list or work or whatever custom list you'd like with a quick swipe. Love it.
And if you get distracted too much and you can help it... Pomodroido. Simple way to use the Pomodoro method on the phone and fun because it has a game component of leveling up the more you Pomodoro technique.
Some other really nifty things...
Mint- financial management and budgeting. Safe to link to your bank account... Super secure by Intuit. I was wary at first to give to my bank but they have a lot of backing now from a lot of major companies. And you can read how they maintain their security online.
7 minute workout- No excuse not to exercise when it's only 7 minutes... Add it to regularly and you'll be shapely in no time. The workout is actually a little hard. Kicked my butt.
Meditate free- you can set it for only three minutes... You can find three minutes... Even if it's in the bathroom.
Lift- habit tracker and creator with a social feature. Very neat. If any of you have it or get it, I'd love to be Lift pals so we can keep each other motivated!
What about you, moms? What keeps your busy life in order?
(I organize movies and books alphabetically and in order of genres, even my CDs. It drives me crazy when something is out of place or the house is messy or disorganized. Even my kitchen cabinets are organized! LOL
