In-Laws...

Is your relationship with your in-laws how you thought it would be?

Mine definitely is not. My MIL (Mother-In-Law) is constantly trying to control how I do everything. And has tried to beat the s*** out of me in front of my kids.

I would LOVE to!! My husband is a total momma's boy though. Everyone knows it, except him apparently. Hell, I have a protection order against her for myself and my kids, but he said that if she took me to court over it he was going to side with her. I told him if he did we were going to be getting a divorce (we were only married for 5 months at the time). I should've left then, but I had nowhere to go, no job, no vehicle, nothing. And, I thought that after that incident I wouldn't have to be around her as much. But, I was wrong.

Oh trust me, there's a lot of compromise on my end. My MIL takes my kids almost every weekend. Because if she doesn't, she comes over here to see them, then asks us for money because she's wasting gas, even though her husband makes more than my husband does. So, it's either let her have them, or we go without enough money for things we need. That's another reason I'm so adamant on looking for a job.

Yeah it is. I always get to hear through the grapevine how his family actually feels about me too. But, I have to keep my mouth shut, because if I say anything, his mom won't come and gripe at me, she'll gripe at my husband and it causes tension in our marriage.
My BIL used to live with us, and he had the nerve to sit there and say I'm a bad mom. I'm home all day every day not doing anything but taking care of my kids, cooking, cleaning, trying to budget for everything we need because my hubby will buy anything that looks interesting to him. Or, he'll give his mom money without me knowing because she spends everything her husband is making on stupid crap.
But, I am getting a break on how often my MIL is trying to run my life because my step-SIL is pregnant and living with her now.

I sure hope so! I'm trying to talk my hubby into getting a job with the rail road about 2 hours away. My grandpa used to be chairman at CSX, so he could help him get on no problem. And, I know he won't want to make a 2 hour drive for very long, so we'd have to move. We just moved into the house we're in now, so we'll have to be here for at least a year. But, a year really isn't that long. I'll be happy to move 2 hours away from his family. It'll also put us closer to my family. I haven't gotten to spend much time with them for 4 years.

It's not as horrible as everyone always seemed to imply, based on their own relationships. I don't mind my MIL, but I don't feel close to her. She never tries to control anything, and she genuinely seems to love me, and has ever since Trevor first introduced us. She does have a daughter, so it wouldn't just be happiness to have a daughter, lol...She calls on weekends, when she has time, to keep up and just talk to us. She misses us, and she cries when she thinks about how she always pictured her family living all close together, and instead we've moved far away. She's helpful, and offers advice, but as said before, she never tries to control things or start anything bad. She supports us, and wants to be in our lives.
