Speech delay

My 18 month old is going to be evaluated in June for having a speech delay. He currently only says about 5 words now. His hearing was checked on Friday and everything turned out fine. But I'm still a little scared what they will say when they evaluate him :( I never had an issue with my other children. Any advise?...maybe just to make me feel better. I'm so worried.

Aww... That's hard! If his hearing is fine I wouldn't worry TOO much. I'm not an expert or anything, but my nephew was a slow talker. At 3 he's still VERY hard to understand. He's a bright boy, though. He's hit every other milestone and they're starting him in preschool this fall. Everything is normal - He's just a little behind the curve in this one area.

I hope you get some answers soon!

Hope your evaluation goes well in June and sheds some light on your son's issues.

It took our last child, a boy, a long time to talk. I'd say he wasn't saying sentences until mid to late last year. He's 3.5 years old. Some just take longer than others. I'd say all our boys took longer to talk than our girls.

Happy to say that I am a mother of 4. I currently work full time and try to enjoy what little time I have to spare with my lovely little family. I love meeting need people, making new friends.
