I started doing a swim class for Avery when she was 7 months old. I really want her to be comfortable in the water because we spend a lot of time at the lake during the summers. Plus I think water safety is a great thing for kids to learn in general.
The way our school works is there are 4 levels of baby swim, where a parent is in the water with them. Then they graduate to a little kids class where it's just the kids and the instructor in the water. The baby levels are determined by age, how comfortable they are in the water, and a few skill requirements. Avery started out in BB1 because she was so young. After the first session we were told to sign up for BB1 again. She was doing very well but they thought she was just too young for BB2.
Well, we just got assessed again today and they said that she meets all of the requirements for BB2 except for her age. She's very comfortable in the water, holds her breath under water, and does very well on her floats. The only thing is she'll still be quite a bit younger then the other children. She'll have just turned one about 3 days before the next session starts. Most of the other kids will be 18months to 2.5 years.
I don't really know what to do. I wasn't expecting her to graduate from BB1. Only her and one other baby did. We were going to take the summer off and come back when she was older. The classes are expensive and I figured we could just go to the lake with her. Now that they say she can do BB2 I kind of want her to keep progressing... I don't know what to do. The summer break would be nice for me and for our wallet, but Avery is doing so well I don't know if I want to stop the momentum.
