Babies and cats

My husband brought home one of my daugther's hats from the hospital the day before we all came home. When we came home from the hospital, our cat stopped to check Kaitlyn out and then came to me. It only took him a few hours to get use to her crying. Then, whenever she started crying, he would be sitting close by until someone came to grab her. He wanted us to know she needed us! Our cat would come and cuddle with me while Kaitlyn was sleeping on me when she was really little and still does when it's cool and I have a blanket covering me. Kaitlyn loves our cat and just smiles and starts talking when she sees him.

I think the biggest thing is to watch your cats around your baby to see how it goes. Be sure to give attention to your cats! They are part of the family also.

You make a very good point Jen, I think the biggest mistake that people make is that they're animals move to second place when a baby comes home. I do not fuss around Charlie when the dog is in the house. Animals recognize where your energy is being placed, they are very curious by nature. Use common sense around your animals. Don't leave your child unattended and as they grow, teach them how to respect animals.

I work outside of the home full time and so does my husband. I cherish all the time I get to spend with my daughter.
