So I need advice...

My 5 year old and my 4 year old are homeschooled by me. Today we were discussing school and the perks of public school. My 5 year old wants to stay in homeschool and my 4 year old wants the public school. I am ... i don't know. I am afraid to let them go to public school! what should I do? My husband is all for them going to public or private school. I just want to homeschool them and let them go to public or private summer school every year. What do you think? Please be honest too :)

I'd say you and your husband have a lot to discuss and come to an agreement on.

Personally I'd say your children are too old to be making decisions of where they should be going to school. That being said you could always leave the door open to public school when your four year old is older if you want to homeschool her for right now.

I know here public school doesn't even start until 5. I would think maybe what your 4 year old really wants is the chance to get out of the house and meet other people his age. Are you a part of any playgroups or homeschool field trip groups that would give them the chance to meet and spend time with people?

Okay, So I don't let my kids choose everything BUT we do talk about everything. Yes even as young as they are. They give me the ups and downs that they see as children and I take all that info and look at it from every angle. I know public school isn't evil lol ( I was in public school off and on) but I do know I learned a lot of my bad skills there such as cursing. I know I'm basing it off of my own experience as I was bullied and tortured at public school. I preferred my homeschooling to public school because of the pain it caused me. SO.... My husband and I discussed it and we agreed that they will be homeschooled but summer school will be public or private to let them gain the experience. I feel that is wonderful and I'm all for it. Thank you for your opinions and advice. It helped me sort this out for now.

By the way... The perks they see are just this : riding the yellow school bus, going to school with friends, playing at the school playground... mainly things that involve other children. I see that they may be lonely... so I will look into more programs involving homeschooled children. Thank you Beth for speaking on that.
