sleep troubles

my 9 month old son absolutely refuses to sleep in his crib. the cry it out method doesn't work either we spent 3 hours trying that the other night and all it did was make it worse. if you go in and try to comfort him it makes him cry more the only thing that settles him down is if i lay with him until he goes to sleep. he also doesn't sleep through the night yet.

Hi Sarah, nice to meet you here) You definitely not alone - this problem is almost common. There are some tips from moms, hope they will help:
What to do if your baby won't sleep in a crib

By the way, do you breastfeed?

Oh Sarah, even can imagine how to help you... Cup of tea? :-)
Have you tried to go outside before sleeping?

How long does it take him to go to sleep when you lay down with him? 5 minutes, 10, 15? Ask yourself if it is worth those minutes in order for him to get to sleep without all the hassles. It's a small sacrifice on your part. We still lay down with our 3 and 5 year old and they are usually asleep in a matter of minutes. Then we have the evening to ourselves. They are only little once.

Oh and eventually he will learn to sleep by himself. All our older ones did. :)

Theresa, you always have such amazing tips. I was always worried about such a situation arising and wanting to stay away, make them learn to comfort themselves.... but learning they grow out of it gives me hope that I may not have to be so hard on myself and can have a steady, loving transition to sleeping alone.

I have the unique advantage of having older ones and knowing how fast they grew up. Just a different stage of mothering gives me a different vantage point. That's all. ;)
