Tips on letting child take a bath alone

Lay down ground rules. (No splashing...ha and wash cloth stay in the tub, don't get out by themselves, call mom/dad that you are ready to get out and whatever else you can think of....)

Don't fill the tub too full. I only ever put a couple of inches in when they first started taking a bath by themselves.

Always be within ear shot.

Accidents happen so be sure to put down a lot of floor protection in the form of a tub mat or towels.

I like all your tips! Especially that accidents DO happen. I have a couple of scars on my head from being a silly girl. One was flying out a storm door too fast, and it slammed and shattered the fiberglass, the other was dancing in the tub. Both times one of my parents was within reach, but things happen. I hate when I see moms beat themselves up over things like that.

I'm not saying that we shouldn't pay attention, just that kids are made to get bumps and bruises along the way. :)
I didn't let my 3 year old take baths alone until my 2 year old was ready to join in. And even now I guess there not alone they have each other and I sit on the couch and watch them :) They think they are alone but I see ALL :)
How old is old enough to allow a small child take a bath on their own? When I nannied for a family, the mother allowed her 4 and 2 year olds to bathe together and play in the tub while she did some minor house cleaning on the same floor as the bathroom they were in. Even though the water level wasn't at dangerous levels, I thought the kids should still have constant adult supervision as in someone stay in the bathroom with them. I'm also over protective but once something happens, sometimes the damages are irreversible.
