What do you think of this picture? (dress code)
I'm assuming this picture is in regard to school dress codes. What is your opinion? Are dress codes ridiculous or do they exist for good reason?
I think dress codes have a place and a reason. But I agree with what that says as well. We perpetuate the sexualization of women by focusing on clothing and image. Versus teaching respect and equality.
I personally don't mind dress codes, but I do think there should be balance so an administration can avoid claims of sexism. My daughter isn't in school yet--do you moms of school-aged children feel that dress codes are aimed more toward girls than boys? I really suspect it depends on the school and their individual problems, but I'm sure this isn't impossible.
I don't think they are sexist at all, actually. None of the kids can wear tank tops or have midriff showing. Shorts have to be below a certain area for both sexes. Now the bra strap thing... I would think that was common sense, fashion wise. You might see that if you had on a tank top but they can't even wear tank tops so the point is moot.
Honestly I like a dress code... I think girls show way too much these days and should be more modest!
