Tubes for ears?
As for the surgery risks, I have no idea, but here are two things to consider:
I had an ear infection in my right ear for years. Always draining and stuff, I wasn't allowed to go outside without a hat that covered my ears or ear muffs during winter for at least 5 years! I had bad days, where my ear really hurt, and even one day where my ear drum popped! It was the worst pain I've ever felt, second to giving birth! Now that I'm all grown up and my ear is fine, I do have a hearing problem in that ear. But part of the reason I had that ear infection is because I produce a lot of ear wax (inherited from my mom) and small ear canals (inherited from my dad [thanks, guys]).
I did know someone who had tubes in her ears, and because of this, during the night she could hear things better than most people and it would keep her up. Her family moved into my friends house and when I stayed the night and my friend and I would stay up talking, she'd come in and ask us to be quiet several times a night. Frustrating for all three of us.
