Carry baby on back with moby wrap: is it comfortable

I've heard conflicting reports about whether or not it's safe to carry baby on your back. If you do plan on doing it, make sure you're doing it at the right time in baby's life, and with the right carrier. Not EVERY carrier is made for this type of carry. The link below has a lot of information about the different types of carries for each stage and which carrier is best for the kinds of carries.

I never could get them on my back. Scared me to try, I might try when my youngest gets a little bigger as we have a couch to help now.

Having a baby on your back is totally safe... but not in the Moby. The Moby is a stretchy wrap, and so the fear is that the baby would be able to lean back and the material would stretch making them able to fall out. If you want to do back carries with wraps, you need a woven wrap. I have lots of them, I know VegMammais a babywearer as well and it can be really fun and comfortable! Just be sure you are asking lots of questions and practicing safe babywearing :) I am not an expert, but I do have a lot of experience and practice and would be happy to answer questions!

I have two homemade 'mobys'. My sister got bored two pregnancies ago and I benefited from her boredness lol. She made one from stretchy-great for nursing when they are tiny and one woven. I'm really not big on the stretchy and never could get the hang of nursing in a sling or wrap, but I LOVE the woven and use it constantly.

Nope! I put Hayden on my back when she was 3 weeks old. You just have to be more careful. If you've never done a back carry, I would wait until he can at least hold his head up somewhat (which he's probably good enough already) just because you may not get it perfect the first time and it's not something that's worth letting his head flop around for ;) Google Reinforced Rucksack or No Wiggle Carry, but please please please be sure you have a woven!!!

I love the idea of wearing more than actually wearing. I have a moby which I LOVE the idea of.. but man that thing is heavy and hot and I pretty much can't wear anything but a light shirt under it. I also have a snugli, way easier to use but it just doesn't sit right. He's getting too heavy to hold in front. A friend let me borrow a ring sling, I love the way they look but I have bad tendinitis in my shoulder so I can't wear that either. I've pretty much given up on it, especially when I see the prices.
