Should you nurse your baby to sleep

I have nursed all four of my babies to sleep. I do not see anything wrong with nursing a baby to sleep. Nursing provides a lot of comfort for babies. My babies always fell asleep while nursing and then it was easy to put them down to bed.

Breastmilk has antibodies and enzymes in it that help prevent the milk from causing cavities. Feeding a baby a bottle to sleep can be harmful to their teeth if it is formula because it can possibly cause cavities.

I nurse Avery to sleep occasionally. I don't think there is anything wrong with it. I do notice that she doesn't sleep as long because she either wakes up gassy or scared. She's gassy because she fell asleep before I could burp her well. She's scared because she fell asleep in my arms and woke up somewhere else. Those are the only reasons I avoid it.

It's not really a big deal though because it's pretty easy to get her back to sleep.
I think the part of nursing to sleep that is problematic is that kids don't learn to fall asleep on their own. For some babies, that isn't a problem as they don't have issues with the transition. For my kids, however, it was a problem as they used to want me to nurse them for every minor nighttime awakening, so I had to put an end to it.
