When is it safe for baby to eat deer meat?

Living in Montana, and with a hunter, I'm sure this will come up in our household. Luckily he takes his meat to a butcher to make sure the meat is processed and packaged correctly. Otherwise, I would not feel safe giving it to Charlie. There are a lot of hunters around here that process their own meat to save money, but I would be a tad bit concerned about feeding that to a baby. If it is processed and packaged in a commercial facility that knows the regulations, I'm pretty sure it would be safe around the same time that you would feed a baby any other meat. Taking your meat to a commercial processor also reduces the risk of lead shot in the meat, which could present a problem as well.

Does anyone else know anything different?
