Is it ok to tell scary bedtime stories for kids?

Personally, we don't tell scary bedtime stories. We feel it is important for our children to get a good night's sleep. Telling scary stories or watching a scary-to-them movie is counter productive to allowing them to get a good night's rest. I really don't recommend it. And what is the point of trying to scaring your children anyways?

When I Bailey was young, we would tell her scary stories (appropriate for her age) around Halloween. She was never honestly scared, since it is her favorite holiday. Goes with Christmas and other holidays as well. :)

I agree it depends on the age of the child but I was thinking younger than 13. My teen girls can watch things without getting scared, not that we watch horror movies or anything but a good mystery or detective show doesn't phase them.

Yes it definitely depends on if they can easily tell the difference between fake and real. And if they ask for it and know what they are getting.

Well I have never told my kids scary stories, life can be scary enough, although I have never met anyone who has not has some unprovoked night-terror at one time or another!
