Libary Cards

Went down to the library today and tried to get my kids their first library cards but they would only let my oldest get one. They had to write their own names on their card and the lady would NOT let me help them at all or they couldn't get their card! The table was so high that my 2 year old couldnt see to write his name on the card. So I asked her if we could go sit at a table and they would write their names on the card. She was like "No! They need to do it in front of me or they don't get their card" so i set my 2 year old on the table to write his name. Which by the way cant write his name on his own he needs help. So I set him on the table to write his name. He was having trouble so i said "do you need help?" The lady says "No you cant help him he needs to do it on his own. It made me mad because he couldn't do it on his own. So im sitting there with the baby in one hand, trying to keep an eye on my oldest and trying to get Tyson to write his name on the card. I probably looked like an butt trying to get my 2 year old to write his name knowing that he couldn't. He kind of scribbled on the card trying to write his name and she was like "Well you can come back when he can write his name." Tyson started to get sad because he wanted to write his name on the card. And she took the card away. This really bothers me. We have been home for a couple hours now and i am still bothered by it. I just needed to talk about it and try to get over it.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. Our library will only allow children five years and older to get a library card but we waited for any of ours to get library cards. Our three older girls just go theirs nearly three years ago. It's a big responsibility to keep track of the card and books. I also didn't want to have umpteen million books out on different cards to keep track of, which I knew I'd be doing with younger children. We own a ton of books and I always worry about the library books getting lost in them and it being a chore to find the library's.

My son got his card at 13 months and we are allowed to get 25 books at a time for him. Me an my husband on the other hand can only check out one book every two weeks with our cards.
I would have asked if someone else could help me if you felt she was not being kind. I do it all the time if someone seems like they just don't want me in front of them for some reason. I always do it kindly and it kind of throws them off and they will either be nicer or go get someone else. If it bothers you too much you can also call the library and ask what their policy is on cards for kids just to make sure you were given correct information about him signing his name.
