What age can baby hold sitting position?

Ali wanted to sit from day one. She didn't want to be laying down. She had really good head control for how big her head was. I had her sitting up holding my fingers when she was a few weeks old but I didn't keep her sitting for more than a minute or two at a time. When she was about 3 months old we finally got enough money together to get her a bumbo chair. She would sit there for a little while than want out to sit holding our fingers. If she wasn't holding on to us we would hold her hands and we would let go of her hands for a few seconds at a time to see if she could sit up on her own. She mastered sitting up on her own at about 5 1/2 to 6 months old. She can go from laying in her glider to sitting in her glider all on her own now (7 mo old). She hasn't quite gotten from laying on the floor to sitting up yet.

It's amazing how they want to sit up in your lap at such a young age. Some of mine did that too. I just think they are so curious about their new world that they want to see everything!

It was around 6 months for most of mine to sit by themselves too.
