Average weight for 1 year old baby

I always thought 20 lbs was the average weight for a 1 year old baby. I have heard and read this too, "An old rule of thumb to use as a guideline is for the baby to double his or her birth weight by six months and triple it by one year." But if this were true some of my babies should have been close to 30 lbs by a year so I don't believe that to be the norm, maybe for an average weight baby of 6-8 lbs but not a baby over 9 lbs.
