What does effaced mean?

Effaced has to do with how thick your cervix is. In order to vaginally deliver a baby you need to be 100% effaced and 10cm dilated. Your cervix may begin to thin out weeks before you actually deliver. That's okay, it just means your body is getting ready to push a baby out. It doesn't put your baby at any risk.

I think one of the reasons for my c-section was this never fully happened to me. My body just couldn't keep up with my baby near the end!

I would have preferred if my doctors never told me what percentage I was effaced because for some reason it always raised my hopes that labor was soon and it ended up being soooo far off!
