sex education and drug education in school....

ok so my niece is in 1st grade and has already started learning about drugs and how there wrong. and will soon learn about sex education. i dont know how i feel about my girls being taught about sex and drugs at such a young age. i feel that if my girls have any questions they need to come to me not go to a teacher. i dont need someone telling them to much or misleading them. how do you guys feel about sex and drug education in elementary school.

i know right i dont feel that children in first grade need to know anything about drugs or sex. ive decided that when that time comes im just gonna tell my girls that if they have ANY questions at all about what they've learned in school about sex and drugs not to ask the teacher to come home and ask me and i will answer there questions the best i can. i mean my oldest has already started asking questions like when it was that time of the month for me she came in the bathroom and saw what i was doing so i breifly explained to her what a vag. is and what happens to women when they get older. she asked about it so i explained the best i could and shes kinda understands now. i dont think it should be anyone elses job to tell them about these things its what we are here for as parents to teach our children about the uncomfortable things teachers teach abc's and 123's not about sex and drugs.just my opinion.

Sex education in first grade does not mean learning about sex itself. It means much more than that. At this age they are teaching children about ok touch and not okay touch, being hygienically responsible and personal space, etc. They are NOT teaching them the birds and the bees. The curriculum should be age appropriate and it is very important. While you may be great at having these conversations not every parent is. Heck lots of parents think they don't even need to broach the topic at all. I believe comprehensive sex education classes are important as long as they are approached in an age appropriate manner.
