Responsibilities of (free) babysitters

My 11-year-old daughter's friend comes home with my daughter every day -- and I mean EVERY day! Honestly, I'm tired of it. We have four kids of our own and can't feed her, but the problem is that this girl's mother never even asked me. Basically, she's using me as a babysitter. She picks up her daughter any time between 6 PM and 8 PM. My daughter really enjoys her friend, and her friend is no trouble. Still, I don't appreciate being used as a free babysitter. My question is this: What are my responsibilities should this girl get hurt? If she's ever seriously injured and the paramedics have to be called, I don't know how to even reach her mother.

Oh my, you are probably a blessing in this girl's life even if the mother is not being very considerate of you or her daughter. Perhaps talk to the mom and voice your concerns and see what she'd want you to do and if you can have her contact info just in case. It seems like a logical request that I can't see her denying, right? You don't see her getting angry or anything?

Sadly.. to be honest, you are 100% responsible if she is in your house! My sister in law just had a friend of my nephew's break his arm in many places at their home.. and lucky for them, the parents didn't pursue anything.. but still, they would be have been liable, my sister in law that is.. I would talk to the Mom or parents.. express your concern and what's going on.. any logical parent would know you would want to talk about it.. that's really odd for her to stay that long EVERY day! But very sweet of you all to not mind..
