Trisomy 13 or 18

Ugh.. my heart is heavy as I found out my sweet cousin who is expecting a sweet baby boy.. found out that they are suspicious he could have trisomy 13 or 18.. they are waiting on further tests.. I just wanted to see if any Mamas have experience with either? I tried to research as much as I could.. either diagnosis is beyond heartbreaking.. just seeking out any first hand experiences if someone has them.. thanks Mamas.

I have heard of it but don't know anybody personally that has went through it. I will keep your cousin in my thoughts and prayers though.

my second son was born at 24 weeks with Trisomy 18 ( extra 18th chromosome). Usually such babies can't survive outside the womb... He looked like a normal baby except of a smaller head and clenched hands. My doctor did a detailed additional ultrasound and they found that his heart didn't work properly, he didn't swallow the amniotic fluid because of the absence of stomach. The amniocentesis showed extra 18 chromosome, and very soon my son was born naturally and passed away 30 minutes after.
I'm very sorry, Meg, about your cousin. I was shocked, my husband was shocked and Mark..he wanted a brother so much...

I am so sorry. Praying for the family. It's hard to lose a baby, at any age.

Oh dear, Meg. I will keep your cousin and her baby in my prayers...may the test come back negative for it.
