Big kids and self grooming, is this a battle in your house?

Is it just me or do kids hit a certain age and basic grooming is like punishment? I asked my daughter last night before bed "Did you brush your teeth?" well when she answered in the affirmative I could just tell she wasn't being honest. I was pretty exasperated and said "I don't know why you would like about something like that. All you had to do is say no and go do it."

And lord help me with my son and washing his hair. He would be happy never to wash it, ever. I hate to be a nag but I tell him as soon as he gets into the shower to wash his hair right away so he doesn't forget. I know it annoys him but it gets done.

Maybe my kids are too dependent on me saying something. I don't know. And I'm not a hygiene freak or anything but it is important to me.

And don't get me started on the deodorant war, sigh.

How do you deal with this?
