Preparing a teen for college

College prep etc. crept up on all of us (our oldest daughter included) very quickly. We all thought we had more time and then when our daughter decided what she wanted to do, we discovered we were rather unprepared. (Shame on us, I know!) I think it was partly a denial thing too, at least on my part, because I didn't want to think about it or deal with it, she was/is still my baby! Also, she wasn't sure for the longest time what she wanted to do, even now it still changes.

Anyhoo...our daughter is now working overtime to make sure she has all her credits, taking the right courses, doing the right extra curricular activities, etc. She is the one who has done all her research, contacted colleges etc. She tells me what she needs, asks questions as they come up and we are getting there.

Now we know more than we did and will be better prepared for the next ones coming up. Dear oldest is helping them all prepare now! lol!

What are you doing or have done to prepare your teen for college?

You know, it's hard to prepare them if they have no idea what they want to do, isn't it? Mini goes back and forth between a few things and honestly I don't think she knows WHAT she really wants to do. I've suggested just taking basic classes since you don't really need to declare a major right away. I have been pushing her to get the math and science classes out of the way so she doesn't have to retake them in college though.
