Teens and First Jobs

Our daughters have volunteered with us since they were young. None of them have really had a job outside our home/business until now. Our girls will be farm sitting for our neighbor/friend this weekend. They are very excited about the opportunity. While we were there our neighbor's friend came by and she will be going away next month and mentioned the possibility of having our girls take care of their animals. Sooo....the girls are really hoping that works out. Not only for a bit of extra cash but because they truly love animals and helping out.

Our oldest daughter has blogged for income. She also writes for two mom bloggers and earns money that way. Now that she is looking at college expenses, I have been trying to give her more paid opps through my blog as well. She also earned some money with me on my content creation job I got through HireMyMom.com. They didn't care that she was related, which I was very grateful for. Hubby even helped a little too.

What jobs have your teens had?

My babes are too young.. I started volunteering at the age of 12..partly to help me get over being shy and partly because mom didn't want me left home alone.. My first real job was a fast food restaurant, then onto a data entry job at a welding shop.

Volunteering is a great outlet. Since we've had the farm we don't do as much as I would like so we jumped at the chance to help our neighbor.

My first job was babysitting. Then when I was 16 I started working at the Dept. of Natural Resources as the radio operator and I worked there through the rest of high school and college.

My mom used to deliver medicines for a local pharmacy. One of the couples she delivered to had a thrift store and needed some help as they were getting up in age. I was working the store alone after a month.

That's so awesome!! I just hired two sisters down the street from us to be a mother's helper and their mom is SO SO Grateful. It's a great relationship - I really need their help, and she is glad that they are earning money and taking responsibility.

When I was a teenager, I volunteered at the zoo, and that eventually turned into my first paid job.

I helped my pastor's wife and babysat for them through high school. They lived right next door. They were like second parents to me.

That's great a volunteer position turned paid!

I know, we haven't been pushing anything either. Our oldest just had knack for writing and wanted to write so we let her. Now she wants to earn money so we are trying to help her since she's been unsuccessful with jobs in town (which I am ok with!)
