To spank or not to spank?

So just a question because this day and age someone will call children services on you for beating your kids' butts. I'm not talking about beating the crap out of your kids but smacking them on the butt with your hand when they do something they know they're not suppose to. I do and believe all parents should. I think that's about half what's wrong with the world are kids think they are privileged and can do what they want when they want because they have no repercusions not that all kids that don't have their butts beat act like that, but I know some. And yes I am the parent that will take her kid to the bathroom in public and bust their butts if they want to yell at me and disrespect me in public or something like that. I also think other than just busting their butts you need to tell them why your doing it before hand and then make them set in time out and think about why it happened. Maybe hopefully so it don't happen again.

I'm very old fashioned and think kids should have manners and know how to act in public. Should still say mamm and sir. And never disrespect an adult. At home they can act crazy all they want but in public they need to have manners. Don't get me wrong I don't think I bust their butts as often as they need it, cause it always makes me feel bad even if they did something and deserve it.

That's how I am. Sometimes they just need it but regardless I always feel bad for doing it. And if there's something else I can do I try it first (time out ect.). And like you said most of us were spanked and we're just fine.

We actually had a police officer look at my daughter and tell her that I had every right to pop her on her bottom with my hand. I was her parent, and she HAD to listen.

I was also spanked as a child, and our dad yelled...a lot! To this day i hate hearing someone yell at or spank a child. I do smack my sons on the butt when they need it or wont listen, but I usually do time out or grounding. Does anyone think a almost 10 year old is too old for time out? I'm having a lot of problems with my son not listening. Like right now I have told him 4 times to turn off the TV and do the dishes, he is still watching TV. His excuse is he cant find the remote. Its only the first day of summer and he is already driving me nuts! Lol
