Have you thought about a babysitter or nanny? Even just a few days a week--we do that.

I too would prefer not to use daycare. When I was young and my mom stuck me in daycare, I caught mono. She never put me back in daycare again.

I think it's up to you. I know some people who put their babies in daycare ASAP. I never plan on Daycare. I've seen too many and heard too many bad and unacceptable things about/in them. I generally have trust issues anyway, so I'm never putting Nina in Daycare. I never even use baby-sitters. But if you're comfortable, I think when she can speak enough to say if something is wrong or happened, then go for it.

I do know that separation anxiety peaks around 18 months--we just went through that with Maddie, and it was rough. It is a very personal decision based on what your family can accommodate. Bottom line, however, is that if you need to use daycare, you can at any age, regardless of how hard it is to start. Kids will adapt as needed.

I really felt like Audrey needed to be in daycare once she was about 2. She went to preschool 3 days a week for 3 hours a day this past school year and she absolutely loved it. She has grown so much and it was an even better experience than I ever thought it would be. Since we moved, I'm trying to find a preschool in our new area where I can send her for a short day 5 days a week - I would love to stick to our 3 day/week schedule, but Mason will be in Kindergarten next year and I know Audrey will be jealous if he is going to school and she isn't.
