Best work-at-home mom websites for learning
The internet is an amazing resource for learning ways to work at home and for yourself. Which websites to use to learn kind of depends on what you want to do, but the internet is a great place to learn that too!
Sure, there are lots of companies online you can work for... That can be great! The benefits to working for another company online are numerous. For one, you get to stay home with your baby, of course! You also save money on gas, wear and tear on your car. Many online companies also let you choose your own hours. Compared to working for yourself, one thing that is very beneficial of working for another company is that you can let go of work when you are done with your hours for the day. Not true if you're running your own business. Well, it can be true, but it's much harder, at least for me.
But, if you're going to work online... either way there are probably some new skills you'll need to learn. There are plenty of different types of work online... transcription, writing, editing, design, traditional marketing, social media, translating, and many more. These are all jobs you can do online and learn the skills on your own as well. For things like this, you just have to search “How to (whatever job you want to do)” and as you learn, you'll find more searches to help you along your path.
If you want to start your own business though, true, you have to learn skills there too. If your business is going to be online.. I highly HIGHLY suggest these sites:
StevePavlina- This man has some amazing advice for work and life! He also did a full series of posts on how to start with multiple streams of passive income. It's totally free and you can follow along at your own pace.
BlogTyrant- Consistently good advice here from someone who has done it. You can stay up to date with current practices. You can learn a lot about SEO, marketing, money making, affiliation, newsletters, calls-to-action, lots of stuff! He's sold blogs for 5 figures and this is how he makes his living. Whether you're new or seasoned at blogging and web based business, he's got something to teach you!
ThinkTraffic- The same as BlogTyrant, ThinkTraffic has info for newbies and experts to online business alike. More than anything though, if you want to blog... This FREE blogger business plan is INVALUABLE. I recommend it to everyone who wants to start a blog for business. You can download it here at the bottom of the page.
This has helped me organize my ideas and values for websites over and over again. It's not some stuffy business plan, it helps you get to the WHO's and WHY's of your site. I'm sure it'd be helpful for non-blog websites too.
Also, EDX and Coursera offer free courses on business, marketing, creativity, etc. from time to time. They can be very helpful and you can meet other people in your shoes. You might even find a project you want to collaborate on.
What about you? What websites do you go to to learn work at home skills?
Personally I mostly lucked into my work at home job which has now turned into my own business! I started my job as a hobby, got good at it, and had people start noticing and asking if they could pay me to do the same for them (I do social media for various companies). I love what I do, but it certainly isn't for everyone!
