Home pregnancy tests sensitivity level

Home pregnancy tests are tests that check for the presence of hCG in urine. Different tests have different sensitivities.

Early pregnancy tests will usually be be able to test for lower levels of hCG, the lower levels. They can usually test for levels from 20mIU to 25mIU. Regular pregnancy tests will usually pick up anywhere from 25mIU to 50mIU.

The further along your pregnancy is the greater the amount of hCG will be present in your urine. In early pregnancy you will have a much smaller amount so a more sensitive test is needed.

If you are testing before your missed period it is best to find a test that tests at the lower numbers. Most pregnancy tests will say on the back on the box that they amount they are testing for.
