Uses for gripe water for a newborn

When my daughter was born, we decided to breastfeed, and I didn't want to put anything else in her body except breast milk. If I ever have another baby, I will make an exception for gripe water.

Gripe water is an herbal liquid supplement that contains often contains ginger, fennel, or both. It is indicated to be used to ease gas and stomach discomfort often associated with colic, gas, hiccups, and teething.

For us, it stops hiccups on the spot. It's amazing--I'll even take a swig when I have hiccups, and they stop immediately. It appears to be safe after baby is about two weeks old, and the dosage is scalable based on age and weight. My personal favorite brand is Mommy's Bliss.

I just started using it for my bug. An important thing to remember is it is only good for 1 month after being opened and must be placed in the fridge.

That is an important note. The brand I use claims that it doesn't need to be refrigerated, so it's important to check your bottle for proper usage. Thanks Santana Ferrell!

I don't think we ever used gripe water. Good to know.
