Unsolicited advice

How do you deal with unsolicited advice? I know that'a a hot button topic! It's especially frustrating when it comes from strangers!

I'm normally nice about it but I'm a very sarcastic person so it's hard to not be when I get unwelcome advise.

It depends on how it is delivered. If the person is genuinely trying to be helpful I will smile and say thanks, and then move along.

If the person is being disrespectful I employ the "cold stare" for a few uncomfortable seconds and then say something like "I will give that all of the consideration it deserves."

I'm usually a VERY friendly person but I am also the type of person who will treat people the way they treat me. It seems to throw rude people off too, they aren't used to being called out on their behavior, generally.

If it's a stranger i politly nod and smile and say thanks..then i just ignore it. With family i do the same thing unless its a constant nagging thing on there part..then i get a little snappy and try as nice as a i can that this is my child let me discipline/raise my child how i feel is right. But i have had a stranger catch me on a bad day and put their two cents in and lost it on them..but they were kinda rude to start off with. I believe that if any parent wanted advice theyd asked, and even then people can give advice nicer without trying to overstep the boundry.

A lady in the grocery store one day showed me how I should massage my face. (I have some facial paralysis.) I really appreciated her advice.

It mostly comes from my mom, and when I don't take it, even if it's bad or I disagree (stop breastfeeding at one, turn the car seat around at one), she takes it personally. Sigh!
