Looks like I will be delivering before 37 weeks ...

I took my 1 hour glucose test on Monday, I failed that test. They also sent me home with a 24 urine test to test for preE. I done the 24 hour urine test and brought it back on Tuesday then had my blood drawn. I then came in on Wed for my 3 hour glucose test ...

Long story, short ... I am borderline for Gestational Diabetes and I have preeclampsia. So they are going to begin weekly monitoring, weekly urine tests and weekly bloodwork. My doctor has already informed me that we will not be letting me go past 37 weeks pregnant with this baby.

Honestly, I am a little scared but ... will stay positive. I expected to have Gestational Diabetes because I had it with all three of my other children. But, never even thought about preE.

PreE can be very serious, so that alone is a little scary. My doctor wants me on bedrest as much as possible. I have a doctor appointment on Monday. I will then be sent home with another 24 hour urine test. I will return that on Tuesday and have my bloodwork drawn. I then should find out if my protein levels have went up or not.

My doctor did inform me that if my protein levels go up then she may have to hospitalize me and/or deliver her before 37 weeks. So right now we are playing it by ear. Our goal is to keep her in until 37 weeks but, no longer.

So what are they recommending you do in the meantime? Are you on bed rest? Try upping your protein as that has been found to help with preclampsia. (Read up on Dr. Brewer's diet and discuss it with your doctor. In some medical circles he's considered a quack, but midwives love his "diet" because they have found it works with women).

My OB told me early on that she would not let me go past 39 weeks because I had full blown gestational diabetes. Diet and insulin kept it under control but she still monitored me every week, also. My blood pressure started to go up at week 38, which led me to l&d for monitoring. She tried to induce for 2 days with no result and finally did a c-section on the 3rd day. We have a lot in common Rhonda Warren! Have you gone through this with any of your other pregnancies?

I had Gestational Diabetes with all three of my other children. My first was controlled by a diet. My other two I was put on medication. All three of my children were induced at 38 weeks. I assumed things would be the same with this one.

But ... with this one they are a bit different. I am borderline with the GD. So I am monitoring my glucose starting this weekend. But I have preeclampsia which I have never had before. She said it was not really beneficial for her to leave her in past 37 weeks for her or for me. She said in fact ... it is actually more dangerous. So I am happy to know that I am in good hands with my doctor and they will be monitoring me on a weekly basis. I may have to start having two appointments a week.

So it looks like I have less than 8 weeks to go!

I also had to do that 24 hour urine test. NO FUN! I did the one hour glucose but my fasting sugar was so high the morning of my 3 hour that they wouldn't let me do it and just started treating me for gd. My biggest problem was the diet. I couldn't eat everything I was supposed to be eating. I had to see a dietitian every week and after 2 months I just stopped seeing her. I'm a big proponent of listening to your doctor but it was just pure frustration. She wanted me to eat 2300 calories a day and I couldn't get past 700. I was so full and nothing was helping and my blood pressure was up every time I had to see her so I stopped.

Did you have to see a dietitian or did they just tell you what to eat/not eat?

Actually since I am only borderline they are not having me do anything just yet other than monitor my blood sugars. So I start that tomorrow morning. Then I take those results in on Monday with me to the doctor and she will let me know from there what she thinks ...

As for the 24 hour urine test. Yeah, it sucks. The worse part is keeping the urine cool and having to take it back in the next day seeing that I live 30-40 min from my doctor. But ... I am actually glad they are having me do it to keep an eye on my proteins. I will be doing this atleast once a week from now until I deliver.

Thanks so much! It will be a lot of testing but ... I am so glad they are staying on top of it all.

No idea, we havent discussed that. I did with all three of my others but I was induced at 38 weeks. I guess that all depends on how bad my preE gets and how fast ... I am 29 weeks right now.
