When I Reminisce About the Things My Kids Have Done

My step-daughter is a riot (when she isn't sassing and giving the "you're a horrible person" or "I hate you" looks ). Lol

She was on the porch earlier this morning. I assumed she was painting her finger nails when I noticed she kept reaching towards her eyes. My first thought was, "No, she didn't." And, sure enough, I was right. She had used nail polish as eye make-up and had it caked on her eye lids. I quickly grabbed a baby wipe and cleaned her up. Luckily, the polish wasn't dry.

Next, I was washing dishes when I heard, "What are you doing?" Me: "Washing dishes." This same line conversation continued for fifteen minutes:
"What are you doing?"
"Washing dishes."
"What are you doing?"
"Washing dishes?"

All while she stayed right next to me, as if she were my Siamese twin.

She is has been watching, "Frozen" so I've been hearing, "Let it go!", repeatedly all day...and just that line because she doesn't know the rest of the words. Lol

And now she got into her play make-up from one of her aunts, and has light purple sparkles smeared all over her face. I have to smile and turned my face to refrain from laughing.

"Melissa, do I look pretty?"
"Yes, Jaina, you look very pretty."

She smiles, hugs me, and strolls off.

I love her more than she will ever know.

For those of you who do not know, Jaina has Down Syndrome, a severe case of it. Every day is an adventure with her and she loves to make us laugh.

Aw, honey! I'm glad you were able to help with the nail polish/eye make up! That sounds like it could have gone badly if you weren't there to help. It's funny what kids think will work! Lately, Madeleine thinks she can stick things in her eyes, and I have no idea why.

I always get one-line songs stuck in my head! I've actually never heard "Let It Go," yet, although the world is abuzz with it. I hear it's great. :)

She sounds like such a special person!

Oh, I know. If I had to remove it when it dried, she would have not been happy, and it probably would have hurt.

That's strange about the eyes. Just wait until she discovers she can put things in her nose or ears...My son likes to poke his eyes. It grosses me out. He also likes to taste every thing and put it in his mouth. Last night, while bathing, he ate bubbles. Ew. Lol

Kids are hilarious but require an eagle's eye to watch them.

      Thank you, Alissa. :)
I am awful because I secretly wish I was her biological mother. :/

It is okay, I laughed at it myself.
I would be panicking as well if my daughter did that. One time she applied different colors of make-up to one of her eyes and it gave the appearance of a black eye. We thought she had hurt herself and wondered how on earth she did it. We asked her what happened and she said, "Make-up! Pretty, pretty!"

I love her to bits. She can be a handful and is getting an attitude lately, but she still clings to me and is fine later on. She tells everyone she sees, "That's MY Melissa."
I am thinking it is a phase she is going through, the sassing that is. Sometimes I wonder if I am parenting correctly. It took me a very long time to be able to act more like a mother than a big sister towards her. My mother side arrived when my son was born. I am thinking it emerged or was unearthed somehow. Lol

Oh, and thank you, everyone for the sweet comments. I still don't believe I am the best step-mother in the world. I try to be a great one but I believe I am not there yet.
