The drop out dilemma

In our country we face an alarming rate of high school kids dropping out. While the stats are all over the place, one that I read recently stated 1.3 million kids will drop out of school this year.

What in the heck is going on? Are kids lazier now? Are they disenfranchised with the school experience? Is it easier to get by in life now without a diploma (haha, I would say no).

    My brother dropped out of high school and got his GED a year later when he realized that getting a job without ad diploma sucked...well, he didn't so much drop out as he was threatened to get expelled because of continuous bad behavior so he just left. My mom had told him he couldn't, but he was 17 and legally allowed to make his own decision on it. My SIL dropped out days before her graduation, and we're still not sure why.
