Article: The no guilt Epidural

There are mama's out there, we've all experienced them or maybe even know them, that feel natural birth is the best way and they feel they have some sort of superiority to mama's who want the drugs. I'm here to say that this is a bunch of bull crap. Every mama who gives birth is amazing, no matter how she got that baby out of her!! My friend had an all natural birth and she's amazing for it!!! I had an epidural before the pain even started and I'm amazing for it!!! Why? Because in the end we both got our beautiful baby boys anyways. This article tells you that no matter how that baby gets out, DO NOT FEEL GUILTY. Some woman are born to deal with that kind of pain and some women (like me) are born complete whimps. It doesn't matter. We all get our beautiful blessings in the end. :)

My first two daughters were born via cesarean section I thank God that they used anesthesia for me with those two (not kidding or being funny) I wanted to give natural childbirth a try so with Noey and Vanny I had vbac naturals I needed assistance with Vannah with forceps and au-natural with Noah I had four awesome healthy babies, wouldn't change a thing!

I an epidural with my daughter, I was induced so I went from no contractions at all to very painful contractions quite quickly, once I felt those I was having it, though I pretty much thought I would anyway. I plan on having one with my son as well once the contractions start getting pretty painful. I don't have the greatest pain tolerance to begin with. I don't think anyone should feel guilty about having one. I didn't feel bad nor should I should. My best friend had both her girls naturally, she literally didn't make it to the hospital in time to even have one, in fact her second daughter she didn't make it, had her at home lol. I'm not sure I could have done it with one lol.

I kind of had both an epidural and a natural birth... I wanted to go as long as I could before getting the epi just because I didn't want it to slow labor down. I always knew I'd get it eventually though. I made it 12 hours and about 6cm before getting it. It was AMAZING! I could still feel my belly tighten but their wasn't any pain. It was actually fun at that point.

Then they rolled me over to check something and the needle got jostled. For whatever reason all of the numbness was redirected to the lower half of my left leg. I could feel EVERYTHING and my left leg was completely dead weight. It hurt so bad that I was throwing up. It was like that for a few hours! Finally the nurses decided I was loosing it and needed to start pushing. I just wanted that baby out and I probably rushed the pushing process, causing 3 small tears. It was terrible. I don't remember hardly anything about the actual birth of my daughter because I was in such a heavy fog of pain. They handed her to me and I hardly registered that she was there at all. In fact, the only part of my 21 hours of labor that I remember clearly was when I was on the epidural.

Next time I will do the same thing. I'll make it as far as I can and then get the epidural. Natural birth was not an amazing, holy experience for me. In fact, I feel a bit cheated that I didn't get to be mentally present for my daughter's birth. I will, however, take a class to help me better manage the pain just in case the epidural doesn't work out again.
