How to cook food for babies

Charlie is 6 months old today so we'll start feeding him real food. I have a few things that I've been canning and preserving. If you don't grow and can your own, you can buy fresh or frozen. I'm a big fan of making your own baby food. You know what's in it and it isn't packed with preservatives and sugar/salt.

The easiest way to do it is to puree it. We're starting with a sweet potato. I've baked it in the oven and let it cool. Then I'll add some formula to it and mash it up until it's smooth.

Most foods work the same, cook them down (steaming is better than boiling as veggies tend to keep more of their nutrients when steamed) Then put through a food mill or food processor, let it cool and voila! baby food!

Yep, sounds like how we did it. Though we tended to buy baby food for trips out.
