What to do when every meal is a battle of wills
Lately, every mealtime with Nina is a guaranteed headache.
She takes formula, milk, water, or juice quite willingly. No problems there.
The issue is she is flat-out refusing to eat solid table foods anymore, even if she hasn't eaten/drank anything yet. She ate what we did with no problem before, be it chicken and broccoli, or grilled cheese, or mac n cheese, pasta, whatever. Now she won't eat anything but her stage 3 baby foods...and even then, you have to get past the two spoons she's wielding to get to her mouth. Every once in a while, if you put some on the spoon and leave it in front of her, she'll eat it. Most times though she just throws the spoon (and its food), which results in me scrubbing food out of the carpet once this is done. She won't even eat snacky puffs or teething cookies. Baby foods can barely be managed, but not as much as she used to eat. Solid foods? Fuh-get about it!
I know she's growing a new tooth or two (I've seen one of them, right on the bottom, and I thought I saw a second but I'm not getting bitten finding it!), and she's been growing lately. Plus we only moved here a month ago, and her daddy just left for months, so she's just been unhappy and unreasonable. I'm hoping she gets over this. I'm starting to run out of patience. I know, I know...she's only 1 year old and there's been an overload of change lately, I should give her all of the patience in the world and be understanding and all...but I'm unhappy, too! I don't have anyone to help me here, I have no "me" time except for her naps, which have been a struggle, too (her nap has somehow become an hour later than before, and a little shorter...she yawns forever but refuses to sleep or be cuddled or rocked to sleep). The only thing keeping me sane today is that I got to video-chat with my husband for a little while.
I'm hoping these teeth finish coming through and she adjusts to everything...as for the growing, she is only 13 1/2 months old! She's wearing 2T-3T outfits! She can go with a little less growing for a little while, lol!
Keep an eye on that, she may be gearing up for a growth spurt soon.
