Chores!?

What kind of chore do your kids have? How do you get them to do them without starting a war? My oldest boys are only asked to take out the trash daily and they act like I am asking too much. As for myself, I started doing real house chores at 6 years old. I just can't wrap my mind around how lazy kids are today.I mean if I saw my Mom working on something I'd offer to help.

Growing up I didn't have too many chores. I had to keep my room clean and help with dinner. But I was like you, if I saw mom doing something I wanted to help. I think I was a weird kid. If I was bored I would empty out the china closet and polish everything and put it back.

We live out in the country so Charlie will be part of our team. He will have a long list of chores. Me and his dad agree that bored kids get into trouble so we'll be doing everything in our power to make sure his hands are never idle.

Yes, our children have household chores (they are not very good at keeping on top of them) and they have animal chores. Oh yes, they can act like you are pulling their legs off when reminded to to something and they will try everything to get out of doing work!

I had a friend tell me that technology has really changed life and I find that it is true. When my children spend X amount of time on the Kindle or my phone or watching TV, they tend to fuss a whole lot more than if it was a day with little or no technology. We are competing with what is "fun", with what is "hard work" compared to our parents before us.

      Theresa,
I guess that's why my siblings and I didn't mind having chores because, we rarely had a television and never had a Nintendo or any thing like that.At times lived like trolls under a bridge. We were money poor but rich with Love and Respect!

When we have my step son we have a rule that technology and toy time has to be earned, it's not a right. He's not very old so the chores are simple and easy for him but as he gets older there will be more. When our younger son gets older he will have the same rule.

Chores are every day, it's just become a part of life really. My son cleans the living room up, my daughter takes out the trash and cleans her bathroom. If they give me ANY back talk about it then I take over and do it, but they lose all electronics. They absolutely know I will do it too so they don't give me any crap about it. My thing is that big kids do chores. If big kids want to act like babies they can't do things that big kids do like play on lap tops, video games and cartoons.
