Activities with Baby

I mentioned in another post that Erik wants to take the baby camping sometime within her first month of life, like 3 weeks later. Luckily he wants me to do all breast feeding for at least 6 months so that means if I don't go camping, baby won't either, and baby can stay safe at home with me :-)

Moms, how long did you wait before you took baby to the outdoors (hiking, camping, fishing, etc)? Do you think it's risky to have a 1 month old participate in camping? Do you have ideas for taking baby on other family activities that are low key and safe this summer?

I feel the same way. Erik took his son and daughter camping close to a month old. He and his ex wife were in their early 30s and just barely out of their partying days. Where we would camp, the nearest hospital is 2 hours away. I don't want to take any chances. I might feign illness just before leaving to camp. Sad that I'd have to do that in order to avoid an unnecessary fight.

I think the baby should be at least a year or two years old before to go camping , this way the parents could keep a close eye on them. and that way they are not on breast milk

Yes, frail and fragile. Plus she'll still have that soft spot on her head. Heaven forbid something happen to that precious soft spot. Even if I have to sneak out in the middle of the night to take baby to my mom's house 2 hours away, I would, just to ensure that we don't go camping. I doubt Erik would be too pushy about camping, but he'd give me some crap about me being overprotective.

IDK how strong babe's immune system may be, I wouldn't do anything like this without the go ahead from the Ped, but if you don't do doctors, just be extra cautious and how much fun would that be, when the both of you are supposed to be enjoying the great outdoors, you sound like you have reservations about it already, take care.

I don't take my newborn out for long periods of time because he gets hot so I feel like camping would be a no go for me. We pretty much stay in the house most of the time, he is 1 month soon and I am still hesitant to take him out anywhere unless absolutely necessary. We did go to six flags for a couple hours one day but he slept in his stroller and I worried the whole time. I would say until it starts getting cooler I probably won't take him outside for a long time. Plus I don't need him getting bug bites and stuff like that. 6months is usually the go to for everything since they can start wearing sun screen and things of that nature. It sucks because I really want to go swimming this summer :/
