Big Kids Volunteering
I think it is a good idea for children to learn to give of their time for something worthy. As I have mentioned before we, as a family, have volunteered at an organic learning farm.
We have also volunteered at our town's folk festival. This year will be our third year. Our girls look forward to helping the children at the craft table and we relieve the older lady who has been running it for years.
My oldest and her dad volunteered at a food pantry. Our oldest wants to do this again. At the time it was actually a "punishment" for ingratitude and I wanted her to see other people's needs to get her eyes off herself. It worked and she was appreciative of the opportunity and obviously was not harmed by the experience since she wants to do it again now that she is older.
Our older children discovered our library allows children as young as third grade to volunteer so now they would like to volunteer at the library. We are in the process of figuring out hours, etc. and time will tell if that occurs.
What ways do you volunteer or can you think of other volunteer opportunities?
There's one that I REALLY wanted to take home with me today too. I shouldn't be allowed near cats, I could take them all home if I let myself lol. It was a Havana Brown though, and she was so sweet.
