When does ovulation start again after childbirth

Approximately 80% of women will get their first postpartum period within weeks after delivering their baby. This period can be delayed if you are breastfeeding but most women will experience a period within the first 20 weeks.

When your period returns it will most likely be irregular. Many women will experience a heaver than normal period.

Ovulation generally does not return until after the 6 weeks postpartum. It is very rare for a woman to ovulate during the first 6 weeks. Generally you will ovulate about two weeks before your period.

Signs the you are ovulating again can include an increased sex drive and increased cervical mucous.
