Bright versus Gifted

Lots of parents have a feeling their child is gifted. They get straight A's in school, it's safe to say they are above average, right?

No, that's only part of the equation.

Giftedness is not just about grades, it is more about the desire to learn more and more and more. This can be in one topic, or overall. While a bright child may be happy to do whatever math problems are thrown their way, a gifted child will take the initiative to learn beyond what they are taught. They have a certain drive that makes it obvious that their thought processes are higher than their peers.

Lots of children will show these signs in certain areas, but over time they will level out with their peers and be a bright student. There is NOTHING wrong with this! Being bright is not "less than" a gifted student. It just means that is who they are, academically. A gifted child will not level out, they will continuously think with a higher level thought process because that is who they are.
