I conquered our first potty strike!

Definitely feeling accomplished right now. For the last few days Avery decided that the potty was no longer fun. She'd been using it on cue since she was about 7.5 months old, but not anymore! I tried and tried all week but she would just hold it until I let her off the potty. Then she'd pee or poop on the floor. The good new is I figure that means she's pretty darn aware of her bodily functions. How else would she be able to time it exactly 2 seconds AFTER she get's off the potty?

Well, this morning I wasn't going to give in. She woke up, nursed and ate breakfast like normal. She doesn't go while she's eating usually so, like normal, I took her to the potty right after breakfast. I let her sit as long as possible. We sang and read books and played games while I waited for her to go. If she fussed I let her up but held the bowl part of the potty (ours is removable) underneath her everywhere she went. That annoyed her a bit and she'd end up just sitting down, so I put her back on the potty. This went on for and HOUR AND A HALF! She'd ate and drank a lot so I knew she had to go. I had no idea she could hold it that long. She was pretty happy the whole time, just a little confused as to why mommy wouldn't let her be.

Finally, she stood up and looked down at herself. I put the bowl underneath her and Tada! she peed right there standing up. Needless to say, I cheered like an idiot and gave her a TON of hugs and kisses. 20 minutes later I put her on the potty again and immediately she peed! It was like a switch went off in her head or something!

It was a good morning and hopefully I can keep it going this afternoon. I don't want to lose the momentum!
