Recovery from a c-section: what to expect
I recovered very quickly from my c-section. I took it really easy and didn't do anything that I wasn't completely comfortable with. I had staples and tape holding my incision together. A few days after Charlie was born the tape fell off in the shower, and a few days after that my OB took the staples out and put some glue-type tape on it. That fell off in the shower a few days later and I haven't had any issues.
We waited for any sexual activity just in case. I didn't lift anything heavier than my baby, and I didn't scrub at anything in the shower. I just bought some antibacterial foam soap and gave that area a quick rinse. I had bleeding for a good 6 weeks or so and was careful about sneezing, coughing, etc., holding a pillow against myself for the first 2 weeks or so. Also I took a stool softener so that there was no unnecessary pushing.
Be sure to call your physician if there is any oozing, bleeding, smells, etc., coming from your incision spot. Really you should call if you have any questions at all. It's a major surgery and should be treated seriously as such.
Amy a ripped incision sounds scary! I just flat out refused to do anything. Ed was on board with doing what needed to be done. We both figured that I either take a little bit of time now or a lot of time later.
