Article: IVF Mom's letter to baby

I love the idea of leaving letters and notes to our kids for later on in life. I was talking about the below article with a friend of mine. She said she wouldn't include details if the pregnancy was not "natural" (by natural, she's referring to sperm and egg being joined in a lab). But she would talk about the pregnancy, relationship with the father, etc.

I don't think I'll share any detail of pregnancy and birth until Charlie is a mature adult (except for the usual.. mommy and daddy loved each other very much type story).

Do you think there's a difference? Would you still share the details with your child if it was done through IVF?

I will share. My struggle with miscarriage made me feel so alone. No one in my family or friends had every gone through it and I thought I was some kind of freak. It wasn't until later that people came forward and told me they either struggled to get pregnant or had miscarriages too. I wish I'd known ahead of time how hard having a baby was.

I will tell Avery everything so she knows she can talk to me about it if she needs to.

I don't know if I would share or not as we conceived all three of ours naturally. It's not something I am at all familiar with, and I have no idea what kind of state of mind going through IVF puts you in and if it's something I'd feel comfortable discussing with my child later in life.

I do have journals for each of my three children which I write in on big occasions or when something especially adorable or funny happens. I plan to give these journals to them.... at some point. I don't know when yet... but when they are old enough to appreciate it!

I don't know. From what I have read most children would rather know than find out later so I "think" I would do it in the same manner if we conceived through IVF, it is part of their birth story and they deserve to know.
