Big gaps in kids' ages

Does anybody have big gaps between their kids - say 5 years and more? I'm wondering how you manage having family activities and otherwise stop it from being like 2 different families. This is all part of my series on trying to decide whether we should go for #4. I am not pregnant (nor trying yet)! But even if I were to get pregnant next month (no guarantees of that at all), there would be almost 6 years between child #3 and #4 . What do you think?

And how is that working out? :-)

Me too! That's why I had 2.5 years between my current kids, just like I had hoped! But this is my (possibly) I want one more baby before it's too late. Thought I was done but maybe not :-)

My daughter is 9 and 10 years apart from her brothers!

And what's the interaction like? How do you find family activities that are good for all of them, like a weekend activity or vacation? I know it seems kind of silly, but I wonder about that stuff...

I'm not worried they won't be close. I'm worried that the (still undecided) baby will get shafted by always being left behind when we do "big kid" activities. Things like that...

I can see how that would happen. Like I said, it's almost like having 2 families. The one with your older kids and the one with the baby. Not to say it still can't be good and worth it, but I wonder what impact it would have.

On the other hand, I feel like it would be pretty nice to have kids that are finally really old enough to help with a baby. I never had that before. Even now, my almost 10 year old helps a lot with his almost 5 yo brother.

I'm a working mom of 4. My husband, kids and I live in Toronto, Canada. I love to read pretty much anything I can get my hands on, am addicted to chocolate and kissing my kids' necks (they all still let me do it!) and am a bit of a political junkie.
