First period after giving birth...

When is the earliest your period can return after giving birth if you're not breastfeeding?

I was breastfeeding but my period returned right away, at 6 weeks postpartum. As soon as the postpartum bleeding stopped my period started like a day later.

No, it is still postpartum bleeding. It is very common for it to stop and then start up again bright red. Any bleeding in the first 6 weeks is considered postpartum bleeding. Sometimes it is a sign that you might have over done the activity a little bit.

If you have severe cramping, heavy bleeding, foul smelling discharge, or any signs of infection call your doctor. The bleeding is totally normal and common though!

Umm, I'm not a good person to ask. Don't hate me, but it always took me 3 months to get a period after I stopped nursing, regardless of how much I nursed (6 months for baby #1 to 13 months for baby #3).

Yes, I was VERY lucky in that regard!! My children didn't sleep very well, though, as infants, in case that makes you feel better :-)

Mine don't either. My 21 month old is still up every few hours to eat. I am dying of exhaustion over here.

Well, that's just plain unfair then!! :-) But, in all seriousness, are you still nursing her. Time to stop. My little guy didn't sleep through the night until 13 months - 3 nights after I stopped nursing, he was sleeping like an angel. Having daddy come in with the bottle just wasn't as much fun!

I have considered stopping but I haven't mainly because she is so tiny and she needs all the calories she can get.

OMG, did you already get a period? Can't be!

Mine came back 4 weeks after I had my son even though I was breastfeeding.
