In your personal experience and/or your experience as a parent is homework pointless? Is it just busy work with no real merit behind it? Or is it a great way to let children work further on skills taught in school?
What do you feel about homework?
It is very difficult for the kids who are ahead of their peers, be had a LOT of issues with this during the school year just past. It's frustrating for them.
I dunno...I have mixed feelings. In English Class, Advanced Lit, and English Honors I hated having homework. I always finished it in class way ahead of the deadlines but wasn't allowed to turn it in until then. Math homework was ok...I dunno. It can be irritating for the faster kids, especially in group situations. I always got out of group activities and did the entire packet myself
I think homework is a great tool at home to use for some self-motivation. A way to do something education on their own without a teacher standing over them. I never minded homework though so.. I'm not sure.
My only issue with homework is when it becomes so much that the child is spending hours doing it. To me that is a great way to zap motivation. It makes learning a chore and not an actual tool for helping them learn.
