Dog Bite Help!

My moms dog bit my son's leg and broke the skin. I know dog bites commonly get infected. I cleaned it with hydrogen peroxide and put neosporin on it.

What else should I do to take care of it?

Her dog is up to date on all vaccines. I know dogs have germy mouths though.

How often should I clean it? And with what?

Honestly, you should be more worried about a human mouth than a doggy one. We have way more germs! I think you've done the right thing, and I would just keep an eye on it. If the skin seems to get warm and red, or he gets any sort of fever, take him to the doc right away. Most likely, all will be fine. Would keep him away from the dog, though.

The naughty dog is locked up in her crate now and will not be left unsupervised.

When I got bit by my car it for infected pretty quickly. The doc out me on antibiotics and made me have a tetanus shot. If it's not looking infected then peroxide and a bandage are the best things to do. Make sure it doesn't get any dirt in it. I would clean it a few times a day just to be safe. Animal bites get infected so easily. My doctor told me to watch for a red line (like a vein) anywhere around the bite...that meant the infection was worse and they would have to give me stronger antibiotics.
