preference

Does anyone know if it means anything if your baby prefers to nurse from one side??? Sage always nurses on the left. She used to nurse on both but now just the left. At her doctors appt. the nurse actually asked if she has a preference for nursing.....this makes me think there is some sort of concern, reason for it.Thoughts???

All three of mine have had a preference. In fact, with Audrey and Hayden they prefered one side so drastically that the other side dried up. If you look at the picture I Just posted for Throw Back Thursday you can (you have to really be paying attention) tell that my left boob is almost twice the size of my right!!

I've always been told that it's not something to worry about. You may become lopsided, but if that doesn't bother you, then no need to be concerned!! I think with Hayden and Audrey it has a lot to do with flow. My left side has always been an overproducer. In the first few months it would choke them, but later they love it because they get more milk for less work ;)

Found this on a LLL (La Leche League forum)

      http://www.kellymom.com/bf/concerns/mom/lopsided.…

"If baby suddenly begins to refuse one side, it could be caused by an ear infection or other illness in baby (making nursing painful or uncomfortable on that side), an injury to baby (or something else, such as a sore immunization site) that makes nursing painful in that position, or a breast infection in that breast (which can make the milk taste salty). Many babies who refuse one side do so because mom has a much faster or slower letdown on one side (baby might prefer either the faster or slower flow). If all other possible causes are ruled out and baby continues to refuse one side, then consider seeing your doctor just to rule out any breast problems"

The thing that gets me is that Sage is going on two and doing this not an infant......

well this did start when I had a blocked duct. The blocked duct was on the right which is the side she wont nurse from......I never thought of that. Maybe she just decided to stay with the left after that. The pedi wasnt concerned
